List the tax forms you need by gathering your tax records and determining the deductions, credits and filing categories that apply to your personal or business situation.
Check your tax forms and instruction mailing from the IRS to see which forms you have already received. Some taxpayers do not receive forms via mail.
Check your computer for Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 3.01 or later. If you don't have it, visit the Adobe Acrobat download page to download the software or update your version (see Resources below). The software requires 30 MB of drive space and runs on DOS, Windows, Macintosh and Unix.
Go to the IRS Forms and Publications Resource page to search for the form you wish to download (see Resources below). You may search using any of the following sort protocols: form and instruction number, publication number, topical index, date posted on IRS.gov, previous years, alternative-media formats or the directory list of filenames.
Find the form you need. Scroll down the "List of PDF Files" under any sort protocol and click to select. You may select more than one file by holding down the Control (Ctrl) button as you select.
Click on "Review Selected Files" at the bottom. A list of the files you have selected will appear.
Click on a file and it will download to your computer. When the form appears in a new window or tab, you may be given the option of filling it out on the screen before you print it out.
Print the blank form or a filled-in copy by clicking on the printer option on the Adobe Acrobat toolbar.
