How to File Taxes Online for 2008

1.

Choose an online tax provider, such as TurboTax or H & R Block. Both allow taxpayers to file income taxes electronically for the year they specify.

2.

Gather your 2008 income tax information. Enter the website of the online tax provider and complete your 2008 electronic income tax return. The tax providers will ask questions and guide you through the process.

3.

Review the information you entered on your tax return. Mistakes can delay processing, which could increase penalties you might owe.

4.

Submit your return to the IRS by clicking on the "Submit" button. Print a copy of the return for your records. If you owe taxes to the IRS you will need to enter credit card information to pay your taxes.

Tips and Warnings

  • Delinquent tax returns that show a refund due will not be penalized for being late, but taxpayers have only three years to claim a refund before forfeiting it to the IRS.
